Eugene Peter Tilmann

          Eugene Peter Tilmann, age 91, passed away peacefully at Rosebush Manor on Friday, May 18, 2018 with family members at his side.  Eugene was born on March 27, 1927 in Beal City, Michigan, son of William Jacob and Ida Mary (Hagley) Tilmann.  On October 1, 1949, he married Elizabeth Jean Elias in Beal City.

          Eugene was a lifetime resident of the area.  He was employed as a carpenter with Local 1493 out of Midland and Local 706 out of Saginaw for forty years.  Previously he had worked for ten years for Ferro Manufacturing.  Eugene was a fisherman, hunter, gardener, and enjoyed camping and traveling.  He also enjoyed playing cards, watching the Tigers and was a master player of the game Sorry.  Eugene was a master woodworker who carved many things but was especially proud of his duck carvings and the replica of the first rifle he owned.  Eugene was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

          Eugene is survived by his children:  Bob Tilmann of Mt. Pleasant, Julie (Bob) Gamm of Midland, Diane (Jeff) Wilson of Mt. Pleasant, Jim (Beth) Tilmann of Horton, Michigan and Geno (Pam) Tilmann of Weidman.  He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren:  Matt and Jacob (Bob Tilmann); Cathy, Cheryl and Tony (Julie Gamm); Angela, Ashley, Brian and Kristin (Diane Wilson); Jessica and Andrew (Jim Tilmann) and Trevor and Ryan (Geno Tilmann).  Eugene is also survived by six great grandchildren:  Connor and Sophia (Matt Tilmann), Ava, Allie and Aylin (Angela Reihl) and Hunter (Ashley Wilson).  Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth, a daughter, Mary Catherine, his parents William and Ida, two sisters:  Mary Courtright and Mildred Schafer and two brothers:  Albert Tilmann and William Tilmann.  The family wants to extend a special thanks to the Rosebush Manor Staff for their love, compassion and care of their Dad to the end and also to Mid-Michigan Hospice for the care they gave to their Dad.

          Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Beal City, with Fr. Thomas Held officiating.  Interment will follow the funeral service at St. Joseph the Worker Cemetery beside his wife.  A luncheon at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Beal City will follow the interment.  Friends and family will meet in the Gathering Room at the church from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 with a Rosary Service to be held at 7:30 p.m..  Visitation continues at the church on Thursday one hour prior to mass.  Memorial contributions have been suggested for St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Rosebush Manor, or Mid-Michigan Hospice.  Envelopes are available at the funeral home and the church.
